Posters and large format¶
Large-format jobs are usually printed one-up, but they bring their own questions: scaling, bleed on wide-format media, and tiling a poster that's bigger than your printer.
What you'll make¶
A single large page prepared for a wide-format printer, or a poster split into overlapping tiles you can mount together.
One-up posters¶
- Open the poster PDF.
- Imposition → one-up (or simply place the page on the chosen media size).
- Set the media size and bleed (wide-format often uses more bleed for trimming/mounting).
- Add crop marks if the print is trimmed.
- Review and export.
Tiling (posters bigger than the printer)¶
When the finished size exceeds your printer width, split it into tiles:
- Open the Imposition tab and choose tiling.
- Set the tile (media) size your printer runs.
- Set an overlap between tiles (e.g. 10–20 mm) for mounting/gluing.
- Enable tile marks / labels so each tile is easy to assemble in order.
- Export — each tile becomes a page or file.
Options explained¶
Scaling¶
Scale the artwork to the final size. Check the source resolution: enlarging a low-res file shows pixelation on big prints.
Overlap¶
Overlap gives you material to align and bond adjacent tiles without gaps.
Tips¶
- Confirm the printable width (media minus margins) before tiling.
- Number the tiles — assembly is far easier with labelled overlaps.
Troubleshooting¶
- Blurry large print? The source is too low-resolution for the final size.
- Gaps between tiles? Increase the overlap.
